“The Guardians of Iris” is an educational role-playing program designed to empower employees, offered by Accessibility Support Academy in collaboration with Aelia Path. This partnership aims to deliver a unique EduLARP experience that enhances understanding and support for individuals with visual impairments, while simultaneously promoting social and workplace inclusion. The program takes place in the city of Iris, where superheroes learn how to become advocates for equality and inclusion. It is addressed to organizations and companies that wish to train their employees in supporting and integrating individuals with visual impairments. Each group consists of 24 to 26 participants, with a total training duration of three to six hours.
Activity Description
Dr. Vision, a wise scientist with the ability to foresee the future, gathers the superheroes at the Academic Support Center to train them in supporting individuals with visual impairments. Heroes such as Flex (who can change shape), The Soul Witch (who reads emotions), The Astro Guardian (who transforms energy into beams of light), and The Bat (who can move effortlessly through darkness) take part in everyday challenges that help them understand the lived experience of people with visual impairments.
Experiential Training
The heroes enter a virtual reality environment where they experience the daily life of individuals with visual impairments. Flex attempts to navigate the city using a white cane, while the Soul Witch tries to perceive the emotions of those around her without being able to see them. Dr. Vision teaches basic escorting techniques, emphasizing the importance of proper communication and cooperation.
“Support and empathy are the true powers that unite a society,” Flex explains to the other heroes. Participants learn how to guide individuals with visual impairments safely and respectfully, practicing through everyday scenarios that combine the use of technology with their personal strengths.
The training culminates in the organization of a large concert in the center of Iris, aimed at raising public awareness about visual impairment. Citizens gather to watch the superheroes present both their powers and the value of solidarity. Collaboration and civic participation are highlighted, especially when the villain Unknown attacks the city. The joint action of heroes and citizens proves that cooperation is the greatest power of all.
